Localising the future: Empowering Eastern Cape through the FMCG SDI

The Eastern Cape is at the forefront of a transformative journey to reshape our economy through the localisation of fast-moving consumer commodities.

Hosted by the Walter Sisulu University, Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator, a dedicated Fast-Moving Consumer Goods - Supplier Development Initiative (FMCG-SDI), this effort aims to revitalise local and rural production capabilities, ensuring sustainable community development and reducing dependency on imports for local consumption.

VISION 2030

To increase the sustained supply of high quality, locally produced, consumer products, to a benchmark of 40% market share in South Africa supporting youth, entrepreneur and enterprise development in the emerging Agro-processing and food manufacturing sector.

The localisation of consumer food production through Agro-processing and light industry to create jobs and MSME development as compliant, sustainable suppliers of high quality consumer products.
Development and transfer of skills in the South African food supply and value chain. reduce unemployment, provide food security and reduce the need for imported local food products.

DEVELOPING SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES

OBJECTIVES

Develop 23 manufacturing and Agro-processing facilities using existing public infrastructure, to provide operating spaces to 200 MSMEs, creating over 3000 jobs across the Eastern Cape and developing the South African emerging sector FMCG Supply and value chain.
